The Niangouela exploration permit covers 178 square kilometres and is located on the Boromo Greenstone Belt, same as the Company's Bouboulou gold concession. It is proximal to the Kalsaka deposit and the Sabce shear zone. The property is road accessible and has one major orpaillage (artisanal workings).

Prior work on the property includes 556 pits and 11 trenches, with rock and soil samples having been taken. A total of 1,137 samples had been collected.

*Previous programs identified a zone which runs ENE and WSW occurring in the south central part of the concession. This zone has returned gold-in-soil samples up to 34 g/t Au. Rock samples have returned values up to 18 g/t Au.  Trenching has returned values of 4.85 g/t Au over 10 meters.  Property contains numerous quartz veins and outcroppings proximal to artisanal pits and workings.

Current Exploration Program

Nexus Gold’s initial work at Niangouela was completed in December of 2016 and included sampling and an 800m Rotary Air Blast (RAB) drill program.

The company took a total of two rock chip samples as part of the initial work program.  Both came back positive.  Sample NG005, taken from the primary quartz vein at 46 metres below surface in an artisanal shaft, returned a value of 2,950 g/t gold.   Sample NG006 was collected from the artisanal dumps of the sheared intrusive which returned a value of 23.9 g/t gold.  

Additional samples were taken on a subsequent site visit, and these samples also returned high grade mineralization.  Sample NG007, taken from material extracted from an artisanal shaft at a depth of approximately 60 metres, returned a value of 403 g/t gold.  NG008, taken from another shaft 10-12 metres away from NG007, returned a value of 49.8 g/t gold.

These results indicate the presence of high-grade gold occurring within the primary quartz vein and the sheared intrusive envelope.  A total of 11 rock samples were obtained and tested on these initial site visits.  See table below for complete assay results.

The RAB drill program consisted of 30 holes totalling 802 metres and was conducted in a broad grid pattern on lines spaced at 200 metres with drill sites every 50 metres along the lines.  The program was designed to test the orientation and extent of a previously identified primary quartz vein.  Samples were collected over three meter intervals and were shipped to Actlabs in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

Results from the RAB drilling program indicate the primary quartz vein - now identified in trenches, artisanal workings and RAB drilling - extends over 1km (1000m) in length.  It remains open in all directions.  Hole 19 proximal to the primary quartz vein returned 1.05 g/t gold over 12 metres, while a 500-metre secondary strike was identified by mineralized intersections occurring in holes 4, 13 and 15, which returned anomalous gold values over three metres respectively.   All holes in the program were drilled to a depth range of 18 to 46 metres, testing the saprolitic rock (soft rock) which sits at the top of the stratigraphy.

In addition to establishing the strike length of the primary quartz vein, the RAB program successfully identified a secondary anomalous gold trend striking to the south west at an oblique orientation to the main east-west striking quartz vein.

A phase one 2000m diamond drill program at Niangouela began in January 2017 with the objective to test the primary quartz vein and associated shear zone at depth and along strike while targeting areas of gold anomalies identified from rock samples and RAB drilling.   The drilling successfully intersected the shear zone for over 200 metres along strike and to depths of 105 metres below surface.  The shear zone remains opens along strike and to depth. 

Results from the phase one program delivered gold in eight of the first nine holes drilled, with several intercepts of note. They include NGL-17-DD-008, which returned 26.69 g/t gold over 4.85 metres (including 8.50 g/t gold over 0.62 metre, and 120.00 g/t gold over 1.03 metres). Hole NGL-17-DD-006 returned 4.00 g/t gold over 6.20 metres (including 20.50 g/t gold over 1.00 metre). NGL-17-DD-009 returned 2.61 g/t gold over 4.00 metres (including 5.92 g/t gold over 1.00 metre), and NGL-17-DD-003 returned 1.80 g/t gold over 5.10 metres (including 6.14 g/t gold over 1.10 metres).

The sampled core was delivered to the independent Actlabs laboratory in Ouagadougou where the samples underwent analysis by fire assay with an atomic absorption finish. If samples returned values greater than 10 ppm gold the sample was re-analysed by gravimetric fire assay. Samples with identified visible gold were analysed using a fire assay metallic screen analysis. The Company employs a QA/QC program of inserting standards, blanks and duplicates into the samples stream as a supplement to the internal checks employed by Actlabs.
